B..RAVE New Word invites us to experience the transformative power of language—not just as a means of communication, but as a catalyst for shaping our collective reality. Drawing inspiration from Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World, the piece explores how narratives can influence society, for better or worse. While Huxley imagined a dystopia where stories shaped behavior and reality, this work flips that notion, showing how language, used with care, can unite and open doors to new possibilities.
Blending the structural precision of Russian Constructivism with the playful energy of Pop Art, B..RAVE New Word demonstrates how disciplined lines of the past can harmonize with the bold spontaneity of the present. This fusion mirrors language itself—rooted in tradition yet constantly reshaped by context. Just as architecture defines physical spaces, language shapes our perception of the world. Here, words don’t just embellish the design—they are the design, sparking conversations and connecting ideas.
The colors—blue for the sky, green for nature, yellow for energy, and orange for creativity—tell their own story, evoking a shared and vibrant world. Draft-like lines lend a sense of playfulness, like an open invitation to imagine beyond the edges—a reminder that both art and language are dynamic, ever-evolving.
When projected onto the streets of Harlem, NYC, B..RAVE New Word transforms the city into a living canvas, inviting people to engage in an ongoing conversation. By casting this work and its message on urban surfaces, I’ve turned the city itself into a collaborator in the creative process, blurring the boundaries between art and life.
The design features an origami-inspired bird rendered in wireframe lines, bridging nature and human creativity. Poised for flight, it symbolizes the transformative power of language—folding, shifting, and lifting us toward new horizons. The raw, draft-like outlines capture the process of creation itself—art in motion.
At the core of the design lies the word “freedom,” where the letter “D” appears in both English and Russian (Д), symbolizing cultural coexistence. Nested within “freedom” is the Russian word “Дом” (Dom), meaning “home,” grounding the idea of belonging. The words “peace” in English and “Mir” (Мир)—the Russian word for both “peace” and “world”—are interwoven with “freedom,” emphasizing the intrinsic link between freedom, peace, and our shared existence. The mirrored relationship between “W” and “M” reflects unity and self-awareness, suggesting that “New World” and “New Peace” are interdependent ideals.
The ellipsis in B..RAVE invites a pause for contemplation, while the expanding letters in “RAVE” celebrate the power of expression to reshape everything. The connection between the “B” in B..RAVE and the “P” in Peace illustrates how purposeful words can ignite meaningful change.
This piece encourages us to consider the narratives we live by and the possibilities we can create through thoughtful expression. Like a blueprint laying the foundation for a structure, B..RAVE New Word offers a vision for a future where unity and diversity coexist, creating a more peaceful world.
Limited-edition prints of B..RAVE New Word are now available, extending this message of connection and transformation beyond Harlem. My hope is that through this work, you’ll find something that sparks reflection and inspires connection. Language shapes the world around us, and by choosing our words carefully, we have the power to co-create a future where peace, freedom, and unity can truly flourish.
