Imagine our universe as a cosmic brain, where vast networks of information swirl, pulse, and interact.
1+1=1 turns an equation into image: a symbol of unity and transformation. The numbers read as eyes, with the plus sign as the bridge between them. Like a meme, the form circulates between people, gathering meaning through each encounter.
At its center, the work is about recognition. Through others, we meet some part of ourselves. We mirror one another, reshaping what we share.
Inner and outer worlds come into conversation. Each interaction shifts the field of attention — as above, so below; as within, so without. Thought, perception, intention, and feeling move through the work, passing between the self, others, and the universe.
Just below the brain, symbolizing the head, the equation forms a playful face: 1+1 as eyes, = as the nose, and 1 as the mouth. Together, these elements create a whole — separate and intertwined at once. The image becomes a point of return, changing with each moment of reflection.
A clean, minimalist design of bright colors and simple lines gives the composition its mathematical rhythm. The brain, split between yellow and blue, is outlined in green — two hemispheres drawn into the same vibrant current. Green flows through the brain and equation like life itself, carrying thought, movement, and creative energy.
Yellow brings warmth, blue offers stability, and green anchors the image in nature and renewal. Where the colors meet, thought, emotion, and possibility merge.
Flanking the equation, the orange W and E evoke East and West, forming the collective WE.
Boundaries soften, and the simple becomes extraordinary. A dialogue with ourselves emerges — who we are, who we are becoming, and how we shape one another.
As cultures, ideas, and visual languages blend, common ground takes shape: a space where difference remains present while expression moves freely. Since May 2024, Olga Lamm has projected 1+1=1 into the open air, transforming landscapes, architecture, and environments in Harlem, NYC. In these public appearances, the work sparks spontaneous conversations around identity, unity, and collaboration. Art enters the rhythm of the world, unfolding in real time with every encounter.
In the print version, the black background suggests infinite potential: a space where perception, imagination, and possibility remain open. In a room, the print becomes a visual presence — a reminder that personal experience and collective life are always speaking to one another.
Available as a limited edition print, 1+1=1 extends the relationship between image, environment, and viewer.
