Step into a world where art breaks boundaries, and transformation is ever-unfolding. Braque & Picasso’s Daughters draws inspiration from the pioneering collaboration between Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso, blending their visionary spirit with the vibrant energy of Pop Art. This series celebrates the continuous evolution of identity, creativity, and self-expression, offering a reimagined take on artistic metamorphosis.
The term "daughters" refers to the creative offspring born from Braque and Picasso’s transformative partnership—during which they co-created a groundbreaking visual language and occasionally signed each other’s works, blurring the lines between individual identities. In this series, the "daughters" embody the same fluidity and reinvention that defined their collaboration. Just as Braque and Picasso reshaped the very essence of art, these figures challenge our understanding of self-expression, offering a striking reimagination of artistic growth. Braque & Picasso’s Daughters reinterprets their legacy through a fresh lens, celebrating how culture, creativity, and personal growth continually redefine who we are and how we express ourselves.
Captured at the iconic Wigstock festival in NYC over two decades ago, these candid images reflect the universal spirit of change and transformation. Removed from their original context and reimagined as "ready-mades," the photographs embrace the fluidity of self-discovery. Infused with the vibrant pulse of Pop Art, each portrait is transformed into a bold silhouette, set against a solid color backdrop reminiscent of Pop Art masters like Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein. Through this reinvention, the figures transcend representation, becoming powerful symbols of artistic evolution and personal growth.
A central motif in the series is the guitar—an allusion to Braque and Picasso’s iconic depictions of the instrument. The guitar symbolizes connection, innovation, and transformation. Its sound hole reflects the essence of creativity, while its strings evoke the voice of artistic expression, weaving a visual harmony throughout the series.
Since the summer of 2023, I have been projecting my artwork onto the urban landscape of Harlem, transforming the streets into a living, open-air gallery. As the projections evolve, they breathe new life into the images, reshaping and redefining the artwork with each encounter. The work interacts with its environment, engaging passersby and sparking spontaneous conversations, moments of connection, and shared discovery. The streets become a living canvas, inviting reflection, dialogue, and community through shared experience.
Now, as limited edition prints, this series continues to channel its dynamic energy. Whether you choose a single portrait or the entire collection, each piece captures the essence of reinvention, self-expression, and artistic growth. This is art in motion—an invitation to welcome these images into your space and see how they shift and resonate with you, becoming an ongoing part of your journey.
